The Hays Caldwell Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse, a private non-profit corporation, was formed in 1984 by a grass roots coalition of community and substance abuse professionals concerned about substance abuse and related problems. Originally established to provide prevention and education services, the agency has broadened its focus to include outpatient treatment, counseling, intervention, and treatment referrals.

Prevention Programs

School and Community Programs
School and community based programs are designed to identify and support children and their families by providing assessments, crisis intervention, and education utilizing curriculum based programs. Programs include Lifeskills Education, Support Groups, Brief Strategic Family Therapy and Leadership and Resiliency.

Information and Education Services
The Council increases community awareness of alcohol, drug, and related issues and resources through community presentations at workshops, events, and health fairs.

Community Mobilization
The Council enhances the community's ability to provide prevention, intervention, and treatment services through a leadership role in community projects like Red Ribbon Week. The Council's Speakers Bureau is available to adults and children on a wide variety of topics ranging from child development, stress management, parenting and chemical dependency.

Prevention Resource Center (PRC)
As of September 1, 2004, the Council became the PRC for a 30 county area of Central Texas. The PRC serves as a clearinghouse for prevention resources and materials. For more information, visit our website at www.prc7.org
